Hi Alios,

Good Day!

I lost in quarter final ( Company Tournament). My apponent was very tall and good at placing.  He was placing the ball very fast from the corners of the table. Short balls also he was flicking fast. Please let me know  how to deal with such type of players.

Many Thanks,

Khan

Hi Khan,

I think a good strategy against this type of player is variation of speed and spin.  If you play fast to them they will utilise your speed to place the ball well and get you out of position.

If they are tall then playing into their middle can also be effective rather than trying to make them reach wide.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
