Hi,

My opponent plays with Donic Coppa Jo Gold at forehand and  Sriver EL at backhand. He has recently learned to hit backhands. Moreover, he has a very good topspins and smashes, sometimes the ball is even not visible. Also he catches on the return of his top spin too quick. In short I am not able to find loopholes in his game.Even on the serves he try to attack. What should be done?

Hi Prateek,

There are loopholes otherwise he would be World Champion.  So it is a matter of finding them and then using your ability to try to exploit them.

If he attacks a lot, work at keeping the ball low over the net and also as close to the net as you can.  This is the hardest position for him to be able to attack.

Sometimes just putting the ball into his weaker area just a fraction faster will bring an error as well.  Keep working at it and you will find a weakness.  When you do, use the PingSkills Vault to record it so that you remember it the next time you play him.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
