Hi Coach,

What are the different ways in which the Shakehand grip can be modified in doing the pendulum and other spin serves? Thank you.

Hi Abhishek,

For the Pendulum serve, you take the 3 fingers from around the handle and place them behind the handle.  This releases the grip and allows you to utilise your wrist in a bigger range of movement which will also enable you to increase the spin on the serve.

For other serves, you can relax the grip slightly to again allow greater movement of the wrist.  Usually it is by relaxing the grip around the handle with the little finger and ring finger.

Backhand Tomahawk Serve

In this lesson we show you how to execute the Backhand Tomahawk serve. This is a good complement to the Tomahawk serve. By utilising a similar action, it will make it difficult for your opponent to tell which way the ball and spin are going.

Hi Alois,

I often place all my fingers to form a fist except my thumb is this a wrong way to do service

Your thumb and forefinger need to be on the rubber and then you can put the other 3 fingers in a fist.
