Mentioning the loop

Strokes

In many of your videos you mention the FH or BH topspin, but I haven't seen anything on the FH or BH loop even though this is commonly mentioned on other sites.  The loop is significantly different from a standard topsin as the brushing action generates significantly more spin. I know that you know all this but what are your reasons for not specifically addressing looping - or have I missed it?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your question. It's great to hear that you're diving deep into the technical aspects of table tennis. You're right in noting that the terms "topspin" and "loop" can sometimes be used to describe similar strokes.  We refer to the Loop as the Topspin against Backspin.  This stroke, as you mentioned, involves a more pronounced brushing action against the ball, which imparts more spin than a standard topspin drive.

This stroke is particularly effective against backspin or in situations where you want to generate a significant arc and dip on the ball.

We often start with the basics of generating topspin and then expand on how to increase spin and power, essentially moving towards what is technically referred to as looping.

Your feedback is invaluable, and it highlights the need to perhaps delineate these techniques more clearly.  Thanks again for your keen observation and for following our videos. Keep practising, and always feel free to reach out with more questions or for clarifications.
