Receiving
Hi Alois & Jeff!!
i"m having problem in receiving long but slow and quite high heavy backspin serve on my backhand. If it is serve to my forehand I have no problem in killing it.I can't seems to hit it properly during the ball's top bounce like what i did if it is to my forehand so i just push it back safely. Can u tell me how or what is the proper way to deal with it using my backhand(i dont want to rely on my forehand only)
Thanks Guys!!!
Hi Afzainizam,
You should work on trying to hit a backhand topspin here.
When the ball is up a little higher on the backhand a handy trick is to lift your elbow a little to get it up to the swinging height of the stroke. Then move your forearm through as you would for any other Backhand Topspin Off Backspin.
Give this a try. Remember it will just take a lot of practice as well to get it right. Be committed to playing the backhand topspin when you see this serve coming.
A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
