Strokes
Hi Alois and Jeff.
I am a long pips player. I am using DR Neubauer Boomerang OX on my backhand and LKT Rapid Sound on my forehand now. I know that the frictionless long pimples were banned by ITTF since 2008, but it doesn't matter to use that rubber for competitions in my country.
When my opponents give me a heavy topspin ball, I can chop the ball with my long pips to reverse his/her spin into heavy backspin. But when my opponents give me a heavy backspin ball, I don't know what to do with the ball. Usually I just push the ball with my long pips but my opponents can attack it easily. What should I do with the backspin balls? Is it possible if I loop or flick the ball strongly with my long pips to reverse the backspin into heavy topspin? How is the bat angle if it's possible to do that? Thanks.
Regards,
Sam
Hi Sam,
For the backspin ball you can attack with a flat hit. The long pimples will reverse the backspin and make it feel like a topspin stroke.
We have a lesson on LP Attack Against Backspin in our Strokes & Technique section.
