Long Pimple push

Strokes

Hi, Alois

I must say I have been struggling a lot with those flat pushes with LP, but, I think I finally got it. But, just in case, I want you to confirm if I am right. This is the link of Chen Weixing playing Timo Boll. At 00:25 Chen did some return, is this the flat push you have told me about. It does look effective.

Second thing, I would like your opinion about this:

In this video a player does push against backspin

In this video a player does some sort of fake push

Can you tell me what is the difference between those shots and what kind of effect could I achieve with 1,5 mm sponge long pimple? Thank you

Hi Sasha,

For the first link, yes that is the stroke I am talking about.

For the second, the arm is moving from right to left instead of left to right. and so not using the wrist and hand effectively.

For the third, again the arm action moves in the wrong direction with the elbow moving too much.

Between the second and the third he is just doing the second on faster.  You can do this with any type of long pimples rubber.  The effect would be to revers the spin but not as much as if you had no sponge or a thinner sponge.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
