Training
I have a nine years old son. He is under training for table tennis. Whenever he is doing a practical drills, the footwork techniques and skills such as forehand loop, backhand counter, push etc is readily consistency but when come to rally, it's comes up to be in a mess. The proper techniques and skills is not perfect anymore. Please advice what to do. Thanks
Hi Connie,
This is a part of natural development.
As he does more playing competitively he will start to be able to put together the training skills he is improving. He will start to do more random drills where the ball is going anywhere. This will train his anticipation and ability to follow the ball in the rally.
Don't need to rush the process. It will all get better. It is more a matter of making sure he is enjoying the learning. The rest will come.
Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.
