I keep losing my power in the serve

Serving

I recently started playing table tennis and I somehow managed to put a spin to my ball when I serve. But when I tried to improve the amount of spin on the ball; that resulted in loss of power on the serve and kept on hitting the net. Please give me the method how to not worsen my serve any further. I use shakehand style of holding my bat and I try to graze the surface of the ball with my bat over it during my serve.

Hi Ravi,

If you are losing speed, try to get a slightly flatter contact on the ball.  The thinner the contact the more spin you will get but you will lose speed.  It is trade off between the two.

Hi, Ravi.

I think there are 2 possibilities of your problem. The first one is you don't have the ball land long enough. The second one is you contact the ball at the too low height. To fix the first problem, try to target precisely in the center of your table. If you do it correctly with proper height, you should be able to make a short serve with nice spin. To fix the second problem, try to contact the ball at higher point, while aiming the center of your table.

Cheers!
