Every time i try and return a serve its so spinny it jumps of my bat, yet when i see good players they touch the same spinny serve but it just makes it back to the servers side how do they do that?

Hi Xavier,

This is the art of returning spin.  It comes with a lot of practice but first it is about understanding the basic principles.  Some of these are that you need to have a relaxed hand.  Then think about using your bat like a rudder to steer the ball back on the table.  If the ball wants to go left, then you angle your bat to the right to steer it on.

We have a detailed explanation in our Receiving Secrets course as part of our Premium membership.

The pros do make it look easy but that is just because they have done it many thousands of times.

Fake Movements

After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.

I have the same problem, i can't really control the ball at all because it was too spinny. Although I've been able to return it sometimes using a push/backspin, I always have trouble with keeping the ball low when returning.

It certainly is a common problem especially when players are starting out.  It is the big difference between club players and players that play socially.
