Hi

I am a new member of your website.   I found your website when i was searching for answer to improve my game.   I have trouble returning side topspin or side underspin serves.   I would like to know how i can attack these serves.   Will the technique be different if the serves are placed short vs. long?

Thank you for your time.

Hi Allen,

We are about to make a DVD on Returning Serves.  It should be available in the new year.

Short serves: For side topspin serves you can flick them remembering to allow for the side spin. For the side underspin serves you can push them.  It is more difficult to attack.

If the serves are long then you can attack them with a topspin stroke.

Fake Movements

After the ball has left the server's bat, they can no longer affect the spin that is on the ball. Any movements after the contact are referred to as fake movements and are meant to confuse you as the receiver. You need to focus on the contact to read the spin.
