Strokes
Hi, I am an attacking player, but I struggle against players who have a good return that bounces high with a lot of side spin, any tips.
Hi Gordon,
The main thing is to wait and watch the spin on the ball. They are giving you plenty of time to see what is happening. Use that time to get into position and then use a topspin attack. Make sure you are brushing the ball fast enough to counteract the spin on the ball. If you hit the ball softly, the sidespin will take effect and drag the ball where your opponent wants it. By brushing the ball fast yourself you are giving the ball the spin that you want and can place the ball where you want it to go.
Countering with topspin is the key.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
