Hey,

I've always wondered how your height affects your game.

I've heard people say some players are 'too tall' or 'too short' have different styles, or have different advantages at the game...

So how does height affect one's playing? Does tall players have an advantage? Or slightly shorter players?

Thanks.

Hi Johnny,

Table Tennis is suitable for players of all heights.  There have been World Champions from very short to very tall.

Short players need to have faster legs, because they have shorter steps thus they need to make more steps to travel a certain distance than the tall ones, and also their strokes are shorter.

Also, they usually have shorter arms, thus they can move them a bit more quickly, but have a shorter range from a place, thus are more vulnerable against wide shots and short balls.

At my level, there is a lot of players who can be beaten even by the highest ball exactly behind the net, because thes can't reach the center of the middleline from any side of the table.

On the other side, tall players with long arms and legs need more power to move at the same speed as the short player.

They have much larger range of arms and need to move less to travel a certain distance, but have usually a problem with shots aimed on the body.

This does not have to apply for all players.
It does not have to be a rule.
And it is just a very minor advantage or disadvantage.
