Forehand topspin with short action

Strokes

Hi Alois,

I wonder, if it is really necessary to start with forehand topspin under the table even when you answer to heavy backspin. Or isn't it possible to produce all the speed to receive a heavy backpsin over the table when you speed up in a shorter range of motion and hit the ball on the highest point. I see many players let the ball fall down and then start with the topspin motion down by their knees?

Cheers,

Dirk

Hi Dirk,

It is possible to lift the pain with a shorter faster action but it takes a lot of training to get that right.  It requires an extreme amount of speed with your racket and a very fine contact.

The safer way is to start lower and have a more vertical swing.

Banana Flick

The banana flick has become one of the most important returns in table tennis. It allows you to attack almost any short ball and places your opponent under immediate pressure. Still it is a difficult stroke that takes a lot of practice to master.
