Forehand Topspin against Backspin

Strokes

Hi coach,

I have practiced forehand topspin against backspin for a few weeks but my strokes always hit the net. I have tried to use my leg and turn my hip when I hit the ball but it does not seem to work. Sometimes I whip my arm and turn my hip at the same time but it does not make much difference. I am a 6'2 (188 cm) guy and I wonder if I cannot use any strength in my arms or if I need to lower my body further down when I hit the ball.

Thank you!

Youjia

Hi Youjia,

The main thing is the contact of the bat on the ball.  If the ball is often going into the net think about opening the racket angle.  Then think about getting a good brushing contact on the ball with the contact higher on your racket.

Then you can think about using the legs and waist and the rest of your body but remember to first get the contact right to get the ball over the net.

Youjia, what sort of rubber do you use, is it reverse?
