Fifth ball attack: placement or speed

Strokes

Hi Alois,

I really struggle with fifth ball attacks, even in training. Due to the time deficit, I rarely can play a strong topspin on it, despite the fact that the 3rd ball was quite slow. So I wonder, do I have to persevere to attack 5th ball strongly or for a while I can concentrate on playing a controlled 5th ball with placement, and prepare myself to hit a winner on the next turn?

Hi Ilia,

If the ball is not going on then slowing down is a good idea.  Get the technique correct at a slower pace and then once you develop confidence in it, you can start to play faster again.
