Faster Topspin

Strokes

Hi, I have gotten to the point where I can hit the ball with a lot of topspin quite fast (2/3 of a slam) on a return shot, but I do not know how to improve its consistency. The consistency of the shot is only at at around 60%. Can you explain in detail how to improve its consistency?

HI Steven,

It is important to keep a consistent stroke when you are doing this.  If you have developed a good stroke at a reasonable pace then you need to maintain that same stroke and then just speed the action up.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
