Edge of bat

Equipment

My son-in-law and I play every day (we have our own table and games room)

As we get better I am finding more and more that his shots catch the edge of my bat (or a finger) and that ends the rally. There is no limitation on the size of the bat so would I benefit from using a slightly bigger bat?

And a related question: Should I watch the ball right on to the bat?

Many thanks

Hi Bryan,

I don’t think the size of the bat will make much of a difference.  I think though your other idea of watching the ball is right on the mark.  I think watching the ball will fix a lot of these issues.

It is great that you and your son-in-law have regular training partners.  Nice combination.

Tone is in Your Fingers

There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!
