Doubles Troubles

Strategy

Hi guys,

I find that when I play doubles I have a lot of trouble attacking and end up making a lot of mistakes when I have the opportunity to. So I've switched to a defensive play instead of my usual singles offensive style, and I still end up losing to people who I could easily beat in singles. Any tips for getting in position during doubles or how to rotate when you and your partner alternate strokes in a game?

Hi Daniel,

Moving is one of the keys to good doubles.

You can try rotating around your partner but this is often very difficult.  If you are both right handers, the person on the right may have to play more backhands and the one on the left will pay more forehands.  This will change when you change sides when rotating the serve.

The other thing to consider is where you and your partner are placing the ball.  If you hit the ball down the line it will be more likely that your opponents will hit the ball back towards your partner.

I think you should keep trying to play an attacking game in doubles.  If you play defensively it will give your opponents too much time to make attacks.

Gerada v Lu

Once again Alois and Jeff discuss a great match from the PingSkills Classic. This is the first quarter final between the number 1 seed Simon Gerada and Percy Lu. Without giving too much away, just make sure you watch the incredible backhand that Percy Lu hits in the 4th set. It really is the shot of the tournament.

Thanks Alois, I'll work on it straight away. By the way, I have found no better TT video trainings, and user support, than pingskills. Keep it up.
