Dear Alois/Jeff,

I have an amateur tournament tomorrow, and this is my first. I have done much practice, but I am still quite nervous about tomorrow's results.

FYI, I am playing in a team of 4 against other relatively strong contenders.

Not asking much about the strategy and technique here, but may I know any tips to boost my mindset or maintain a sense of Zen and sanity before and during the competition. Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Ryan

 Hi Ryan,

Good to hear you are playing.

I think the most important thing is to go in with a mindset of learning and doing your best.

The most nerves happen when we get scared about losing.

Try to maintain focus on playing well and executing skills well.

When you start to get nervous, everyone does, take a deep breath to calm yourself and then put your focus on your strategy for the next point.

If you can maintain that rhythm you will find yourself coming out at the end of the day with good knowledge and a good feeling about the day.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

🏓 Tip 1: Learn why playing more shots down the line helps your partner stay in position and how a well-timed cross-court attack can still surprise your opponents.
🏓 Tip 2: Discover the power of serving short and close to the centre line to reduce your opponents’ attacking options and give your team the advantage.

These small adjustments can make a big difference in your coordination, positioning, and success as a doubles pair.
