Cleaning table and shoes

Why do serious table tennis players wipe the table near the net most of the time and why do they stand next to the net a wipe there feet on the ground? just curious because its always those spots.

They wipe the table to dry their hands.  They wipe their feet sometimes if they have water on the ground there to clean the bottom of their shoes.

Sometimes it is just a matter of habit though.
