Blocking less topspin with the backhand

Strokes

Hey Guys

I have a problem with blocking topspins without much spin with my backhand

Every time when I try to block it, the ball goes into the net, even when I open the angle of the racket very much, so is there a special technique?

Thanks Lukas

Hi Lukas,

When the ball has less spin it tends to come through slower.  Firstly make sure you are moving in to the ball more to make the stroke and generate a bit more of the pace yourself.  Often players will play this ball from too far away from their body and so lose some control.

Also open the angle of your bat a little as you are doing.

These things will all help you to get the slower no spin or "Breadmill" ball back.

Strawberry Flick

The strawberry flick is the opposite of the banana flick and involves utilising the wrist to get the ball spinning with topspin and sidespin. Used in conjunction with the banana flick it can be very deceptive. The banana flick is a more reliable stroke and that's why you see more top players using it over the strawberry flick.
