Blocking fast topspins

Strokes

Hi Alois, I've been struggling with my blocking against fast attacks. I'm getting my bat above the table in a neutral position but it just seems like I don't have time at all to react to different placements of the ball. So what should I do to get my blocks on the table?

HiJasper,

Blocking fast topspin is often a matter of staying calm and being able to watch the ball carefully.

Reaction time can improve with your ability to watch the ball carefully.  This sounds simple but can be difficult when you see your opponent winding up for a big shot.

You can train this with multi ball as well.  Get someone to feed out the ball at a faster rate or at a higher speed than you are normally used to and see if you can watch the ball and react to where it is coming.
