I have tried to do a drop shot when I played against my teacher. I have a little problem in it. My teacher didn't use backspin, instead he brushed at the bottom of the ball, so when it touched the table, it changed direction. The ball didn't touch perfectly on my bat. Can you help me? Take a look at the lesson on the Drop Shot off a Chop. Then you need to also adjust your shot if they put a little sidespin on the ball as well. This is a tricky shot to deal with. It is a little like dealing with a sidespin serve. You need to adjust the angle of your bat like a rudder to steer the ball back in the proper direction. Don't try to do too much with the stroke, just use the angle of your bat.

This does take some practice to get right, especially as you are taking the ball early. Try practicing this shot and at first don't worry too much about keeping the ball short. Try to focus on getting the ball over the net. Open up the angle of your bat and aim just above the net. Once you get consistent at getting the ball over like this, you can start to try and get the ball lower and shorter.
