Sponge Thickness

Hi Jeff and Alois,

I have a general question about sponge thickness.  I understand that thinner sponge is generally better for hitting and will have better control as opposed to thicker sponge which will be better for looping.  After recently using a paddle that had thinner sponge than my normal paddle, I really felt the difference in the qualities mentioned before.  This made me wonder about the relationship between sponge thickness and speed.  In general, does the thickness of the sponge affect the speed?  For instance, is there any loss/gain of speed going from Sriver with a 1.7 mm sponge thickness to one with a 2.1 mm sponge thickness?

 Thanks again,

Paul

Hi Paul,

The thicker sponges also tend to be faster.  It will be marginal but probably identifiable for you.

HI Marcin,

I think that is just the feeling of it. It is more about the thickness of each rubber.  Others may have opinion.
