Serving
Most players I see using the backhand serve do so from their backhand corner, and with their left leg back (assuming a righthanded player). This seems more natural as it allows the server to rotate their body during the serve while keeping the contact point close to the table edge. While I prefer this motion too, I have a problem if the serve is returned to my forehand side, as i need to get switch my stance and get my right leg back to make a fh attacking shot. I often feel like I dont have enough time and make poor strokes when returned to my fh.
I have been experimenting with switching my stance for my bh serve, putting my right leg back instead. While the serve is less natural, it's easier for me to play a fh on 3rd ball. Is this OK way to serve, or should I instead keep my left leg back on my bh serve and focus on improving my footwork?
Hi Dan,
I think the modified stance is a good solution. The other thing is to move your right leg back with the service action as you come through with the swing.
