Strokes
I saw your video on "countering slow spinny topspin". I have 2 queries, hopefully you could help me with.
1) Is the block and punch's bat starting postion the same height?
2) Is there an explanation why went we "counter-topspin", we cannot use the technique in making our strokes go high?
HI JinMeng,
The bat can start at a very similar position for the block and the punch. It is just the force that you come forward with varies.
It is hard to get the counter loop high from close to the table but you can do it when you are further away from the table.
How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
