Hi Alois and dear pingskills team!

I try to improve my forehand and backhand serve every training lesson, it works a little bit better now... but everytime i play match i got big problems to play the game i want...

How can i describe... i think my serves are not bad... but i have too weak variations and i´m not sure how i can "hide" my serves effectively, because opponents know what i´m going to do..

So have you got some tricks for serves how i can try more variations which all look like same serve? Maybe then i can control the game little bit better, because at the moment i become too much defensive at match because my serves have no effect on my opponents.

So thanks a lot and hope we write us soon :D

Hi Manuel,

FIrstly it is great you are working to improve your serves.  Sometimes it just takes time.  There are different stages of learning when you are trying to improve any skill.  It starts with just getting the basics right.  As you progress you will start to be able to do the skill well but may not be able to do it in a game situation.  Again as you progress you will start to do it in a match but not in a close situation.  Eventually you will be able to do the skill at 10 all in the deciding set.

Often it is juts a matter of time and good training.

To develop variations of serving think about having the same start position.  From there you can change the swing and contact on the ball slightly to get different variations.  Experiment during your training sessions at first.  Get through the first stage of learning the skill and eventually with training you will have a good serve that you will be able to use as a weapon in a match.

So i try some new serves at same position, i think the hardest step is to reach the ideal height, that´s really difficult, but i keep on trying :)

Thanks for your answer Alois and have a nice day ;)
