Hi Alois,

Did you watch the German open quarter finals between Timo and Samsonov? I am feeling disappointed by Timo's 4-0 loss. Even though Samsonov played brilliantly throughout the tournament, a 4-0 loss in front of his home audience was a bit of a disappointment considering we were seeing Timo after a long time in a big tournament. What are your thoughts on the match?

Also, I think Samsonov troubled Timo with his fast long serve into Timo's backhand throughout the match. What would you do if someone continues to trouble you in one particular spot?

Hi Abhinav,

I did watch it on ITtv.

Don't be too disappointed with the loss.  It will take time for Timo to get back to his best form.  He will be setting himself for the World Team championships in a few weeks.

Samsonov served that fast serve down the line effectively including some crucial points.  In that situation at your own level, it is probably a good idea to give yourself a little more space on that side to discourage the server from seeing to that position.  If they were getting you with a short serve to the forehand then move closer to the table on that side to close off that option.  It just forces them to serve somewhere else.
