In training I play much better, all drills and when my swedish coaches shows me how to improve my game. Also when we have camps I improve alot, especially my weaknesses (backhand loop and coaches serves) then after all that it is tournament time. Coming pretty early, warming up. Playing in Boys 12 first game I meet the seeded player. Good warm up with him then the game begins. He serves sidespin that will go out at my right (but it looks like the opposite sidespin) I forget that there's no underspin and the ball goes up right corner. It goes high and he attacks me or the ball wants to travel out. The seeded player loved to attack to my weakness BH. So the seeded player wins me 3-0 in games. Feel so shamed. 2nd game I meet a unorthodoxic player that I lose him 12-10 then I win the 3 other games. Last match I meet a pretty close player to me. He gets a lot of lucky net balls. Still he is a bit better wich means a 0-3 loss. So I was totally out and did go home.

So my question is how should I play in tournament and not be scared to attack and use my skills and not play almost defensively. And what should I think to improve. I know that I am a very good player that develops fast. One thing I noticed I should made was the bat angle when playing against the seeded player. Any other tips? Also how do top player keep their performance up in the training and tournament.

Sorry if this question was too long!

Thankful for a good answer!

Hi Dima,

The main thing to work on is more random play in training.  This will help you to start tracking the ball better and to be able to play a combination of strokes.  At the moment you are getting better at playing strokes individually but the game involves a combination of strokes and not knowing where the ball is coming.

The other thing to work on is return of serve and then getting into the rally.

You cans still work on improving your strokes and techniques but for better results immediately in matches these are the things that you can work on.
