The drop shot off a lob is a useful shot to play when you are playing against a player who is an excellent lobber. A well executed drop shot may win you the point outright or will bring your opponent close to the table at which point you can play another aggressive stroke to attempt to win the point.

Drop Shot off a Lob

Keep the ball as close to the net as possible when playing the drop shot even if that means the ball goes a little higher. The closer to the net you can get the ball means the greater the distance your opponent has to travel to make their shot.

Main Tips for Playing the Drop Shot off a Lob

  1. Play the drop shot off a short ball
  2. Keep the ball as close to the net as possible
  3. Keep your hand relaxed
  4. Try adding a little bit of sidespin
