Hi

How do I best treat the rubber after playing to keep it fresh?

Regards

Hi Allan,

The best way is to clean the rubber and then stick it in a bat cover to keep it protected. I always cleaned my rubber by just breathing on it and wiping it with my hand. However a lot of people don't like this method as they are really worried about the oils in our hands and how it affects your rubber. I never had a problem but I always changed my rubbers quite frequently to ensure they were new. If you are worried about this then you can always use a damp cloth to clean your bat. Just ensure that after you have wiped it there is no water left on the rubber.

Remember that eventually the rubber will need replacing. How often really depends on how much you play. Top players change their rubbers every few weeks. However most regular club players who might play twice a week can often keep their rubbers in good condition for 6 months or more.

Have a read of the blog I wrote a while back called 3 ways to extend the life of your rubber. You can ignore step 3 now as speed glue is banned so people are no longer applying layer upon layer of glue on their bats and don't need to peel the glue off any more.

Let me know if that answers your question.

Hi,

Just follow the instructions above.  Also, expect that the shine will come off the rubber.  This will not effect the performance of the rubber though.

Just use a damp cloth and some water to clean the rubber. If you use anything else you risk damaging the rubber.
