Hi Ludde,

The keys for hitting with the short pimple on the backhand are to keep your bat quite open, meaning that the bat should be facing towards the net at the start.  Hit the ball with a fairly firm wrist.

Because the short pimple doesn't generate much topspin you need to hit the ball accurately and make sure you hit it when it as the top of the bounce to be able to get a direct line to the table.

This is a very difficult stroke and will take some time to pratice.  Keep encouraging your sister.

Hey, maybe she should get short pimples with a soft sponge like I have they can add the necessary topspin but realy the trick with short pimples is just to hit hard right off the bounce, while the ball is rising, if its at the top of the arc or going down and you try to smash with the pimples it will likely go out.  Every rubber has a magicar angle, I use 802-40 and i hit with a 35deg angle (approximation)
