Hi Tom,

Most rubbers will be sold in both red and black colours.  You will have to buy them separately.  That is, when you buy a rubber you only get one of the colours.

does it matter what color your racket is, when you play real matches?

or does it just have to be one color such as black?

Hi Jonn, Actually one side of your bat has to be red and one side has to be black. This rule was brought about because of anti-spin rubbers. When you were allowed to use any colours, players would get two black rubbers, one a spinny rubber and one an anti-spin rubber. Then when they served, they would twiddle their bat and could hit the same looking serve with either the spinny rubber or the anti-spin. One would generate a lot of spin and the other virtually none. This made it very difficult for the opponent. To sort this out a player must have one red and one black rubber so the opponent can easily tell whether it was an anti-spin rubber or a normal rubber that hit the ball.
