what can i do to make my opponent play on the back-foot if he is too attacking and doesn't give me a chance to attack or if i am unable to topspin his push?

The secret here is to improve your pushing and short game. It is a matter of prevention rather than cure.
There is a lesson in the Video Zone called "I can't return that smash!" that really emphasises this and will show you the importance of this part of your game.
