Hi Ping Skills,

I have a comfortable grip that is effective for my forehand but not on my backhand. My coach has recommended me to use the finger and thumb grip but then i can't add as much spin or power onto my forehand do you have any ideas what i should be able to?

Also what is the right age to start from if you want to become a professional player because i started to play when i was about 13?

Thankyou

James

Hi James,

It is important to get a grip that is suitable for both sides.  You could try just altering the grip slightly towards the backhand grip and see if this makes a difference.  You can alter the grip slightly from forehand to backhand by just using your fingers but it can't change too much as you just don't have the time.

Do a lot of switching training between forehand and backhand and you will find that you will start to develop a grip that suits both sides.  Take a look at our DVD Training Secrets Revealed if you need some tips on Switching Drills.
