Dear Alois,

I have pretty decent strokes and spin, especially when hitting with people who are not as experienced as me.  But, my problem is when I face better people.  It seems as if when I play tougher opponents I hit a few good shots then I either miss or the opponent hits a really spinny slice or side spin shot to mess me up.  So my question is if you have any advice or strategy that I can use to turn this around so when I play tougher opponents I can start to set up points better and possibly start winning more?

Thanks in advance, -Alex

Hi Alex,

One of the main strategies is to make sure that your opponent doesn't make the first attacking stroke.  This is especially so when your opponent has better rallying strokes than you.

So think about practicing your short game a little more.  See if you can get better at serving short (close to the net) and also receiving short.  This will make it more difficult for your opponent to make an attack and will keep you in more points.
