You Asked

Hey, my rubber has started to fall apart after hitting the edge on a short ball. I now need a new rubber but not sure what best suits me. The rubber that is going to be replaced is JOOLA Tango, on the red side. I use this for my forehand, I am a very attacking player and use topspin a lot. On the backhand have NEOS Tacky.

What do you suggest, I have thought about Butterflys sriver-FX but while looking at that noticed a newer rubber in that range is out.

Can you help me please?

Hi Ashley,

Sriver-FX was a good rubber when combined with speed glue. However now that speed glue is banned, you are probably better off going for a tensor rubber especially considering you were using Joola Tango previously. If you are happy with the Tango then I would stick with that. I always think it is best to pick some good equipment and stick with it. That leaves you free not to worry about your equipment and concentrate on improving your game.

If you are after a change then give the Yasaka Pryde rubber a try or Butterfly Tenergy 05.

If anyone out there has tried Joola Tango then please give us your thoughts on the rubber.

Hi dear friend... look out for this Youtube video...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z03Cf7ATgy4

It is what I can find pertaining to Joola Tango.  And I would like to mention some of my own thoughts from my own experience....  I can see that you are currently using two of the best rubbers in the market today, Joola Tango, and Stiga Neos Tacky.

Though I do not mean that Jeff's suggestion is imperfect, but I am currently the user of Butterfly Sriver red on Butterfly Chinese Real blade.  The spin rate is reasonable, speed not too fast, and I am a very looping minded player, my style is very much brushing friction to create the looping trajectory rather than knocking the ball.  Even with this style, when I tried to loop my friend's heavy backspin serve, I found it very very hard as I sweep my entire arm until way above my head to find the ball just clearing the net marginally....and the speed of the ball is slow too though with much spin..... and finally, you can guess...my friend just block the ball easily back and my recovery from the previous heavy loop is not fast enough to return the ball....

Thus, it is good for you to keep to your existing Joola Tango, and Stiga Neos Tacky....from the Video above, seems so good for looping!!  With lots of spin.... if you change to Sriver...I am afraid you will hate to miss the nice feeling of looping and spin which you currently enjoy....OR...as Jeff said, try Tenergy 05 as a high throw rubber option....

By the way, I do strongly agree with Jeff that Sriver, after speed-glued, is very awesome to play with, same as Sriver-FX glued.  I speed-glued Sriver once and I was very overwhelmed by the many times increase in spin rate, and I found myself virtually play two ranks higher than my normal game as I could loop with only very light and thin brushing touches on backspin ball, and the ball just cleared the net with more survival, and fewer occasions of not clearing the net.

Unfortunately speed glue is banned....and the feeling could not repeat...unless you find a tensor rubber series, which I have not yet tried any...

Blame it on the health hazard which ITTF mentioned those volatile organic compounds (VOC) in speed glue is hazardous to health if being inhaled a lot...

This is a tough question of where you can get rubbers since you do not have someone geographically closed....maybe you can only purchase online...and Alois and Jeff in Pingskills are distributing Yasaka Mark V, and I am not sure any other rubbers which they are distributing.... Although I have not played Yasaka Mark V and Joola Tango before, but from the fact you mentioned in your post you used top spin a lot, I am afraid Yasaka Mark V may not meet your top spin appetite, because many posts are saying Mark V and Sriver are almost equivalent.... so, go for either Joola Tango again, or Joola Topspin...or Stiga Boost TC.... just my suggestion......

haha thought might have been that, was gettin closed to being banned when i was playing. Not that i ever used speed glue

i had a look around over the net, found an aus dealer that has all the 3 rubbers sugested. but not sure if the prices are at a good price, they seem like it from the research i have done. Butterfly Tenergy 05 for $85 Joola Tango $45 an Yasaka Pryde $50, thats all in aus dollars, an postage is only an extra $10 so it seem ok.

wat do u think???

I use Tenergy 05 and I'm telling you, the spin is unmatched by any other rubber. I used to think the Donic Coppa series rubbers have high throw angles, but when I started using the Tenergy, everything else became mid-high. This is the rubber for you if you play mostly with loops. Furthermore, it's very durable unlike those german tensor rubbers.

But for Donic, the Coppa series rubbers are a good alternative for your Tango. And you may also want to look at Avalox Sterco, a much cheaper and still durable alternative.

YASAKA MK.V is the rubber i have started using recently, im similar style to you, and find it very good, speed, spin and control, you cant go wrong with that one, its been around 30 odd years as well and still up there with the best of them.
