With proper use and care it should last one to two years at least. You are very wise keeping it out of the sunlight and keeping it clean. They are good tips for everyone in how to preserve your bat.
A good rubber should not lose any performance at least 80 playing hours of vigorous use. After that it will start to deteriorate slightly.
When you change your rubber depends on the level that you are playing. If you are using it 15 hours a week it will probably only last 5 to 6 weeks. Of course someone may still be able to use that same rubber for many months after that.
