Hello, I am having trouble blocking/returning slow but heavy spun loops. The ball is always going off the end of the table when I try to return. I try to close the face of my bat but can't seem to get it right! Thanks

Adam,

Thanks for the question.

The key to blocking spinny loops is to be quite firm with them.  It is almost like you are punching them or giving them a short jab back on to the table.  If you try to guide them the ball will often take off from the rubber and go long.  You do still have to get the angle right of course but try to be a bit firmer with them and punch through the ball.

The other important factor is getting in the right position.  Because the spinny loops often travel a bit slower they don't tend to come through to you.  You may need to move a little forward into the ball or get your body closer to the bounce of the ball.

Good luck. Let us know if this helps.

Hi. Thank you for replying to the previous post. I also wanted to know about the backhand block. When a loop comes relatively fast, is it better to leave your paddle there and let it reflect off the incoming speed? or is it better to just punch it back a little? Sometimes im confused if i should just tighten my grip up when a really fast loop comes and whether to let it reflect off my paddle. THank you
