Women’s teams semi final - Singapore v Germany
The German team come out onto the court after the match and take a bow waving jubilantly to the crowd and thanking their supporters. They leave the arena all smiles receiving congratulations from their supporters. The Singapore team file away texting messages, not a smile to be seen.
You may think that an upset had just occurred and that Germany had taken out the second seeds in the Womens Teams competiton. However you would be greatly mistaken. Rather, a 3 – 0 scoreline to Singapore and a plce in the final tomorrow.
At 2 – 0 up Singapore’s Sun Bei Bei took on Sabine Winter. Winter is an impressive young player with great technique and athletic ability. The Germans will be looking for her to take Germany the next step over the coming years. Today however, she is no match for Sun and the Germans move out of the Gold medal race but have secured for themselves a World Championships bronze medal. They will still play off for third place against the loser of the other semi final.
For the Singapore team they will now face the winner of the top half battle between China and Japan.
