Rules - Timeouts

How long do I get for a Timeout?

You are allowed up to 1 minute. If the player that calls the timeout returns to the table earlier than 1 minute then the timeout is finished and the other player must resume play.

How many Timeouts do I get?

You get just one timeout for the match. So use it wisely. See the related article on Timeouts.

Calling a Timeout

To request a Timeout you can just make a ‘T’ with your hands. You can only call a timeout between points. So you can’t see that the other player is going to win a point and suddenly cal a timeout. Sorry that one won’t work.

In an individual match the player or pair or the designated adviser can call the timeout. In a Teams match the player or pair or the team captain can call it. But what happens if they player and advised or captain disagree? In an individual match the player or pair make the final decision. In a teams match the captain makes the decision. However, imagine if the player doesn’t want a timeout and the captain forces them to take one, I don’t think the timeout would be all that fruitful.
