3 Months Already
Posted by Jeff Plumb on November 8th, 2008
I can’t believe that next week it will be 3 months since I wrote about my Winter Flu and committed to running twice a week around the TAN.
How has it gone?
About half way round the track I always think, “Why am I doing this!” But then when I have finished I feel so much better. I’ve managed to mostly stick to my 2 runs per week. One week I only managed a single run and so I did 3 runs the next week to make up for it. Having said that, this week I have been on holidays and didn’t go for a run at all.
I Love Holidays
I went up to the NSW Coast for a holiday. We stayed 2 minutes from Guerilla Bay which is right near Mogo. It is a great place to visit with heaps to do. I took my son down to one of the many beaches and he absolutely loved running into the water yelling “this is going to be a massive wave!” We also went for a few bush walks and managed to see quite a few animals. We spotted a huge Goanna (Monitor Lizard) which looks like it belongs in prehistoric times. There were a few Wallabies and we even saw a red belly black snake! The only problem with the holiday was that it was too short.
Back to the running
I’ve been using My Run Times to record my runs and it provides several helpful graphs. The one here shows that I have been able to steadily decrease my running times per km from around 5 minutes per km to nearly 4 minutes per km over the 3 month period to November. Looking at these times makes me wonder in amazement at the speed of marathon runners. At the Olympics the winner averaged 3 minute per km for the entire 42km. He finished the race in 2 hours and 6 minutes. Now that really is unbelievable!
What’s next?
So with Christmas approaching fast I’m going to be a little less committed than the last 3 months and might miss one or two runs, but in general I’m going to try and run twice a week as I have been doing. After the new year I’ll take some time and set out some plans for my exercise in 2009!
My Table Tennis
I’ve been playing the local pennant and enjoying the competition. We have one round next week before the finals start. Our team is currently in third spot with the top 3 teams making the finals. The top team goes straight into the grand final with 2nd and 3rd playing off for the other spot. I think that the top 3 teams are fairly evenly matched so it should be a great final series. I have also been trying to have a hit one extra time a week with my doubles partner from the Sydney Olympics but for one reason or another we haven’t managed to make it happen over the last month.
