Table Tennis - Rules of Doubles

Doubles rules are often misunderstood… Remember these and you can’t go too far wrong.

The 4 extra rules of doubles

1. You must take it in turns with your partner to hit the ball
2. You always serve from your right hand box to the diagonal box
3. You serve your 2 serves at a time to the same person for the whole game up to 11
4. When your team has finished your 2 serves, you swap sides with your partner. The person you were serving to now serves and your partner is the new receiver.

Some common errors

Serving one from the right hand box and then one from the left hand box - Wrong
Serving one to one player and then one to the other player - Wrong
Not taking in turns - Wrong

If you have any queries with the rules go to the Ask the Coach Section and we will be able to clear them up for you.
