Table Tennis Serving Rules - Common Mistakes
Posted by Alois Rosario on August 28th, 2008
Two rules that I am often asked about are related to serving.
When you are serving if you throw the ball up and miss it what happens?
This is simple. The ball is in play as soon as you throw it up. So if you throw it up and miss it the other person wins the point. This applies even if you don’t swing at the ball.
Which parts of the table are you allowed to serve the ball to in singles?
So if you play by these incorrect rules, change now and tell your friends as well.
On the PingSkills website you can also see the a video and access a brochure on the rules, simplified for your convenience. Follow the link to A Summary of the Most Important Rules of Table Tennis.
If you have any other rules questions go to the Ask The Coach Section.
